Djibouti, 17 April 2026 China’s President Xi Jinping congratulated Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh on his re-election, expressing confidence in the country’s continued development, according to Djibouti’s state news agency ADI.
In a message sent on Friday, Xi said he believed the Djiboutian people would achieve further progress and prosperity, while praising Guelleh’s role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
“I am confident that under your leadership, the people of Djibouti will achieve greater accomplishments on the path of development,” Xi said, according to the state news agency.
Xi said political trust between Beijing and Djibouti had deepened in recent years, and that practical cooperation had produced tangible results.

He also expressed China’s readiness to implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit and further expand the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The message is part of a series of congratulatory notes Guelleh has received since his re-election in the presidential vote held on April 10.
