The move, first reported by The Athletic and since confirmed by multiple reputable outlets, sees the Blues beat Premier League rivals Arsenal to one of English football's brightest talents.
According to the reports, Chelsea accelerated negotiations after learning Arsenal were preparing an official offer for Rogers. Club officials met Aston Villa on Saturday and successfully agreed on a transfer package valued at £117 million, making the 23-year-old the most expensive English player in football history. The fee surpasses the previous British record of £116 million reportedly paid by Manchester City for Elliot Anderson.
