Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Chinese Embassy in Somalia has rejected comments by a U.S. Senator calling for the recognition of Somaliland, describing them as unfounded interference in Somalia’s internal affairs.
In a statement, the embassy said the letter represented “serious interference” and reflected a hegemonic attitude by certain American politicians. China reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s territorial integrity and unity, citing the United Nations Charter’s principles of sovereignty and non-interference.
The embassy also reiterated Beijing’s stance on Taiwan as an inalienable part of China, warning against separatism and external meddling.
The comments follow the U.S. Senator’s letter to the White House advocating formal recognition of Somaliland, a move Somalia has consistently rejected as a breach of its sovereignty.
