Somalia, 3 June 2026 Banadir administration approved Thursday's opposition protest in Mogadishu for three designated sites only, citing security reasons.
Salah Hassan Omar, spokesperson for the Banadir administration, said the decision was issued by Mogadishu Mayor and Banadir Governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein ‘Mungab’, who cited constitutional principles related to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and respect for differing political views.
The administration said the protest can be held at Engineer Yariisow Stadium, also known as Ex-Koonis, in Abdiaziz district; Mogadishu Stadium in Warta Nabadda district; and Jaamacadaha Stadium in Hodan district.
The statement said the locations were selected to protect security, business activity and development work in the capital.
