Kenya, 4 July 2026 - A major milestone in the transformation of healthcare in Wajir County was marked on Saturday as Baitulmaal Founder Ugas Sheikh Mohamed officially launched the construction of Baitulmaal Hope Hospital, one of the largest Islamic faith-based Level 4 health facilities in the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together government officials, religious leaders, development partners, healthcare professionals, community elders, and residents in a shared commitment to improving access to quality, affordable healthcare.
Once completed, Baitulmaal Hope Hospital is expected to significantly reduce both local and cross-border referrals by providing specialized medical services that have long been unavailable within Wajir County.
The project is designed to strengthen the county's healthcare system by ensuring that patients can access advanced treatment closer to home, reducing the need to travel to Nairobi or neighboring countries for specialized care.
Construction of the state-of-the-art hospital is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The facility will combine modern medical technology, efficient space utilization, and excellence in service delivery while remaining affordable and accessible to the community.
The hospital will offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including:
- Outpatient Clinics
- Emergency and Trauma Care
- Modern Operating Theatres
- Maternity and Maternal Health Services
- Kidney Dialysis Centre
- Isolation Unit
- Newborn Nursery
- Fully Equipped Laboratory
- Advanced Radiology Department
- Dental Unit

Beyond clinical services, Baitulmaal Hope Hospital is envisioned as a regional centre for healthcare capacity building and professional training.
The facility will host visiting medical specialists who will conduct regular training for healthcare workers, offer mentorship, and organize free surgical and specialist medical camps to expand access to quality healthcare for underserved communities.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Baitulmaal Founder Ugas Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the organization's commitment to investing in sustainable healthcare infrastructure that addresses the growing medical needs of the people of Wajir and the wider northeastern region.
"This hospital represents hope, dignity, and a lasting investment in the health and well-being of our people. Our vision is to ensure that families receive quality healthcare without the burden of travelling long distances in search of specialized treatment," he said.
The launch of Baitulmaal Hope Hospital underscores Baitulmaal's continued commitment to humanitarian service, community development, and strengthening healthcare systems through sustainable investments that will benefit generations to come.
