ADDIS ABABA, 2 October 2026 The African Union Commission says it is closely monitoring with concern growing tensions between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt.
In a statement, the Commission called on the three countries to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions or statements that could further escalate tensions and undermine regional peace and stability.
The Commission stressed the importance of maintaining communication and diplomatic channels, urging Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt to address their differences through established diplomatic mechanisms and peaceful dialogue.

It said efforts to resolve the disputes should be guided by the principles of the Constitutive Act of the African Union, including the promotion of peace and stability across the continent.
The AU further said it remains ready, in consultation with the countries concerned, to support efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, restoring dialogue and achieving a peaceful resolution.
The statement comes as relations between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt face growing political tensions, raising concerns about their potential impact on peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and the wider region.
