Somalia, 8 January 2026 The African Union’s stabilization mission in Somalia, AUSSOM, began a specialized counter-explosives training program for regional security forces in Kismayo on Wednesday, as part of a broader strategy to transition security responsibilities to local troops.
The week-long course focuses on route searching and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) for the Jubaland Security Forces (JSF).
Conducted in partnership with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), the initiative aims to strengthen counter-IED capabilities and improve operational safety for forces on the ground.
According to a statement posted on social media, the training is designed to empower Somali forces to take the lead in securing the Jubaland region.
