Kenya, April 15, 2026 - FC Barcelona were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after a 2-1 win on the night was not enough to overturn Atlético Madrid’s aggregate advantage.
Atlético progressed with a 3-2 victory over two legs.
Barcelona came into the second leg in Madrid trailing 2-0, knowing they needed a fast start.
They delivered immediately.
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 4th minute, finishing calmly after capitalising on a defensive lapse to cut the deficit early.
Barcelona maintained the pressure, and their intensity paid off again in the 24th minute when Ferran Torres scored to level the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.
At that point, momentum had fully shifted.
Barcelona looked in control and on course for a comeback.
But Atlético responded with the decisive moment.
In the 31st minute, Ademola Lookman scored from close range after a low cross, restoring Atlético’s aggregate lead.
That goal changed the tie again.

Despite dominating possession and pushing forward, Barcelona struggled to break down Atlético’s compact defensive structure.
Diego Simeone’s side absorbed pressure and limited clear chances.
Barcelona’s task became harder in the 79th minute when Eric García was sent off, reducing them to ten men.
From there, any realistic chance of a comeback faded.
The match ended 2-1 in Barcelona’s favour on the night, but Atlético advanced 3-2 on aggregate.
For Barcelona, it is a painful exit after a strong performance.
Their fast start showed belief, but the first-leg deficit proved decisive.
For Atlético Madrid, it was a controlled and clinical performance across both legs.
They did enough when it mattered and defended effectively under pressure.
