Manama(Mogadishu24)-In a crucial meeting on Tuesday, the Arab Ministerial Working Group convened to fortify strategies supporting Somalia's independence and territorial integrity. This gathering precedes the significant Bahrain summit scheduled for Thursday.
Foreign Ministers from several Arab countries, including representatives from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Mauritania, Djibouti, and Somalia, discussed the implementation of League Council Resolution No. 8988. This resolution is pivotal in defending Somalia's sovereignty against external threats and internal unrest.
The ministers explicitly rejected the Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and the self-declared autonomous region of Somaliland, affirming the Arab League's support for the Somali government's territorial claims.
Ahmad Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, emphasized the League's commitment to Somalia, stating, "Our main goal is to ensure that Somalia's independence is respected and its borders are protected." He underscored the importance of collective action to safeguard Somalia's sovereignty.
The session also highlighted plans for Arab nations to assist Somalia's government in combating terrorism and addressing economic and security challenges. The upcoming Bahrain summit is expected to solidify Arab League support, enhancing Somalia's pursuit of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
