Somalia, 5 October 2025 - The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has strongly condemned the latest attack by the Al-Shabaab militant group on a National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA)-controlled prison facility in Mogadishu.
The attack, which took place on Saturday, targeted the high-security detention center in the Somali capital, sparking clashes between the assailants and Somali Security Forces (SSF).
In a statement, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, described the assault as a “cowardly attack” aimed at undermining peace and stability in Mogadishu and surrounding areas.
“This attack once again demonstrates the group’s utter disregard for human life and its attempts to reverse the hard-won gains in peace and security,” Ambassador Diene said.
He commended Somali Security Forces for their swift and effective response, which he said helped minimize casualties and prevent further destruction. AUSSOM also praised medical personnel for their efforts in treating the wounded.
Ambassador Diene extended condolences to the families of those killed and expressed sympathy for those injured in the assault.
AUSSOM reaffirmed its continued commitment to support the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Security Forces in their efforts to combat terrorism and maintain stability across the country.
