[Middle Shabelle, Somalia] – The Somali government announced on Wednesday that an airstrike carried out by the Somali National Army (SNA), in coordination with international partners, killed 13 members of the Al-Shabaab militant group in the Middle Shabelle region.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Information on June 11, 2025, officials said the precision strike targeted a militant base in the Buurta Cadayga area, near Ceel Baraf, where the group was reportedly plotting attacks against civilians and security forces.
“Thirteen Al-Shabaab terrorists, including several senior commanders, were eliminated. Several others were wounded, and significant weapon stockpiles were destroyed,” the statement said.
The operation marks the latest in a series of offensives aimed at dislodging Al-Shabaab from strongholds in central Somalia. The Ministry noted that the facility targeted in the strike had served as a command post for coordinating destabilizing activities in the region.
The airstrike follows weeks of intensified ground and air operations in Middle Shabelle, where Somali forces and allied local militias are engaged in efforts to reclaim territory from the al-Qaeda-linked group.
The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and called on local communities to support security forces in their push to stabilize the region.
