Addis Ababa, 8 September 2026 Addis Ababa police have received new vehicles and motorcycles intended to strengthen traffic control, prevent crime and respond to violent incidents, city police said on Monday.
The vehicles were handed over at a ceremony attended by senior police and city administration officials, including Addis Ababa Police Chief Lt. Gen. Asrat Denero.
Police said the new vehicles are part of institutional reforms aimed at using modern equipment for crime prevention, criminal investigations and traffic management.
The equipment includes motorcycles for traffic control and a technologically advanced vehicle intended to support analysis of violent incidents, the statement said.

Lt. Gen. Asrat said the motorcycles would help police reach areas that traffic officers may have difficulty accessing, monitor intersections and help reduce road accidents.
He also said the specialized vehicle would help police identify and control illegal activities and violent incidents in the city.
Senior police officials said the motorcycles would support efforts to reduce traffic accidents, while the new vehicle would assist crime prevention by helping authorities identify and apprehend attackers.
Police did not provide details on the number or value of the vehicles handed over.
