Addis Ababa (Dawan Africa) – Ethiopia has opened the doors to its highly anticipated Science Museum in Addis Ababa, unveiling a world-class exhibition that blends innovation, education, and African ambition. The launch, held on Saturday and led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, marks a major milestone in the country’s growing role in STEM education and technology innovation in Africa.
The newly opened Permanent Exhibition Section features five dynamic zones that explore some of the world’s most pressing challenges — including artificial intelligence, climate change, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, aviation, and aerospace. Each section is designed to spark curiosity and inspire visitors of all ages.
At the heart of the launch is the Planetarium Dome, the first of its kind in Ethiopia. The dome spans over 1,000 square meters with a 36-meter diameter and is equipped with state-of-the-art 4K digital projection technology. It can seat more than 200 visitors and delivers breathtaking visual journeys through space — bringing the universe closer to the public than ever before.
“This is a place to create, see, and experience the future,” said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in a post on social media. “If Ethiopians truly want to shape tomorrow, they should bring their children here.”
Now fully open to the public, the Science Museum in Ethiopia aims to become a regional hub for learning, creativity, and innovation. More than just a museum, it’s envisioned as a national platform to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers.
The project, two years in the making, has been widely praised by educators, scientists, and policy analysts as a bold statement of intent. It aligns closely with global goals around inclusive education, sustainable development, and the digital transformation of African societies.
International observers say the launch places Ethiopia among a growing number of African nations investing in scientific infrastructure and digital knowledge economies. By showcasing locally relevant solutions to global challenges, the Science Museum sets a new standard for public engagement in science across the continent.
With its fusion of education, entertainment, and innovation, Ethiopia’s Science Museum stands as a beacon of future-focused development in Africa — and a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about the power of science to shape tomorrow.
