Kenya, 17 October 2025 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Nairobi on Friday morning to join Kenyans and regional leaders in mourning the late Kenyan statesman Raila Odinga, whose death earlier this week has drawn tributes from across Africa.
President Mohamud was received at by senior Kenyan government officials and Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya before proceeding to the official mourning venue in the Kenyan capital.
In a condolence message shared by Villa Somalia, President Mohamud described Raila Odinga as “a visionary leader who dedicated his life to democracy, justice, and the unity of the African people.”
Raila Odinga, a former Prime Minister and one of Kenya’s most influential political figures, 3was known for his decades-long struggle for democratic reform and his prominent role in shaping the country’s modern political landscape.
His passing marks the end of an era in Kenyan and regional politics.
President Mohamud’s visit underscores Somalia’s solidarity with Kenya and highlights the close historical and political ties between the two nations at a time of national mourning.
