June 27, 2026 - Twenty-seven people have been arrested following a multi-agency operation targeting the manufacture and consumption of illicit alcohol in Mwangaza area, Isiolo County.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), the intelligence-led operation was conducted on Thursday, June 26, by a joint security team comprising officers from the National Police Service, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), and the Isiolo County Government.
During the raid, officers arrested two suspected manufacturers of the illicit brew and 25 individuals who were allegedly consuming the alcohol at the site.
The operation also led to the seizure of a large quantity of raw materials used in the production of the illegal brew, processing equipment, and the illicit alcohol. The recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
All 27 suspects were taken to Isiolo Police Station, where they remain in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

The National Police Service said it will continue to intensify surveillance and conduct intelligence-led operations to dismantle illegal brewing networks across the country.
The service added that it will work closely with other government agencies and local communities to identify and shut down illicit alcohol production sites as part of efforts to curb the manufacture, distribution and consumption of illegal brews.
