Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – At least 26 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in airstrikes carried out in Adow Jilib, Gayfo and Qordheere in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region, the Ministry of Defence said.
In a statement, the ministry said the strikes were conducted by the Somali National Army with the support of international partners and targeted locations where Al-Shabaab members were gathered.
The ministry also said that a military-style pickup truck and a fuel tanker were destroyed in the strikes. The vehicles were reportedly being used by Al-Shabaab to support its movements and carry out attacks.
More from Somalia
The Somali government said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to pursue Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters and weaken the group’s ability to organise and conduct attacks.
The Ministry of Defence thanked Somalia’s international partners for supporting the fight against Al-Shabaab and said military operations against the group would continue.
The Somali government recently said it is increasing airstrikes against Al-Shabaab with support from international partners.
