Jijjiga, 5 September 2026 Twenty-two specialist doctors from Saudi Arabia have begun an eight-day free medical campaign in Jigjiga, the capital of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
The doctors will perform free surgeries at Sultan Sheikh Hassan Yabare Specialized Hospital and Karamardha Hospital in Jigjiga from September 4 to 12.
The procedures will include general surgeries and specialized operations, among them urinary tract surgeries for children and adults, pediatric orthopedic surgery, kidney operations, tumor removal, and ear, nose and throat procedures.
The Deputy Head of the Somali Regional State Health Bureau, Mohamed Ayanle, said the medical team would perform six different types of surgeries for children and adults.

He also urged residents to take advantage of the medical services, noting that the dates and locations of the surgeries had been announced in advance.
The campaign is organized by Somali Regional State Health Bureau, the international organization WAMI, and Amal Charity Organization.
Saudi medical teams also carried out a similar free-surgery campaign in the region last year, as part of efforts to support healthcare services for the local community.
