Kenya, 30 January 2026 - Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has strongly condemned the recent insecurity incident in Saramba Location, Mugogondo West, Laikipia North Constituency, describing it as a criminal and heinous act that threatens lives, livelihoods and the right to peaceful coexistence.
Within a period of three days, more than 1,300 sheep and 230 cattle were violently stolen, forcing residents from six villages to flee their homes.
The incident disrupted learning activities, leading to the closure of Saramba, Kurum and Soit Oudo Primary Schools, Kurum Secondary School and Tool and Narupa ECDE Centres.
The Governor, accompanied by Laikipia North leaders led by the area Member of Parliament, Sarah Korere, National Government Administration Officers, and other stakeholders, visited the affected area to assess the situation and to call for calm.
Addressing stakeholders drawn from Laikipia, Marsabit, Samburu and Isiolo counties at Narupa ECDE Centre, the Governor emphasised that insecurity has no place in a civilised society and called for immediate, coordinated intervention by the County Government, the National Government, and community leadership to restore stability.
He assured affected families of his administration’s support, including the provision of basic necessities and the recovery of stolen livestock.
